Mission Statement
To provide shelter, care and treatment to homeless animals in the
City of Portsmouth community through permanent adoptions,
spay/neuter programs, and community education.

Impact Statement
The Portsmouth Humane Society (PHS) is dedicated to caring for homeless animals in the community by promoting their adoptions into loving, permanent homes. PHS provides humane education, low-cost spay/neuter programs and community outreach programs so that we may begin to decrease the pet overpopulation.

Program Description:
Our Permanent Adoption Program is a commitment to place all adoptable animals into loving forever homes. Each animal that comes to our shelter undergoes a comprehensive health exam (including test, vaccinations & flea treatment) and a complete temperament evaluation to determine each level of adoptability.
Program Long-Term Success:
Our adoption rate year-to-date is at 100% for all adoptable animals.
We will maintain that success by promoting the adoption of PHS animals to members of our community.

Program Description:
Our Low Cost Spay/Neuter Program focuses on impacting the number of unwanted animals by offering afforable spay/neuter surgeries to the Portsmouth community.
Program Long-Term Success:
The goal for this program is to help spay/neuter more than 60 animals per month to help combat the local animal population.

Volunteer Needs
Volunteers are always welcomed and appreciated! Through walking dogs to cuddling cats, volunteers are able to make a great impact in the day to day operations of the shelter.
