Mission Statement
PCAV is a 501 (c) (3) private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to prevent the abuse and neglect of Virginia's children. We are dedicated to improving family life in Virginia by valuing children, strengthening families and engaging communities. Our partners are local, regional and statewide human services agencies, civic and religious organizations, businesses, healthcare providers, parents and concerned citizens. Prevent Child Abuse Virginia is the state chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America. By promoting positive parenting that prevents the abuse and neglect of children, we are serving as the "Keeper of Childhood."

CEO/Executive Director Statement:
Johanna Schuchert is one of the founders of Prevent Child Abuse Virginia. She has led the Healthy Families Virginia program since its beginning in the early '90s. She has won numberous awards, including "Outstanding Citizen in the Field of Child Abuse and Neglect" from the Governor's Advisory Board on Child Abuse, "Outstanding Woman of the Year," from the Richmond Y.W.C.A. and the "Lewis J. Hine Award," from the National Child Labor Committee. She is known in Virginia and across the United States as a visible and vocal advocate for children.
