“If it wasn’t for this program I wouldn’t have made this incredible progress in my life.” Rafael Figueroa, transitional housing program.
Resident Rafael Figueroa shares how he went from feeling helpless on the streets to gaining a sense of pride in his life. “When I got to Transitional Housing right away I worked with my case manager and started to find hope. I used the computer room at the Transitional Housing program to improve my skills. I love computers. And now I got a NYCHA one bedroom, wheelchair accessible apartment. I’m going to move onto job training and school now that I have housing. I also want to get back into playing wheelchair basketball, which I used to do years ago.
"Since coming to Freedom House with my children and working with my counselor I can now say I am no longer a victim. I am a survivor."Resident of Freedom House Emergency Shelter
“Outreach gave me back my life.” Jose Rivera
Jose Rivera shares how connecting with BFL’s Outreach Team gave him hope. “I came to Outreach in great need of help. The staff was there for me in so many ways. They helped me find housing through project renewal. I can now move on to looking for work and get my life back on track. I am very grateful and have hope.”
From the great non profit review page:
I've been a consultant for a nonprofit organization associated with BFL for almost five years. I have come to the conclusion that not only is BFL at the forefront of what they do, the members, starting with the CEO, have a zeal to improve and build on the foundation of assisting a vulnerable population that has been overlooked in many areas of life.
