The mission of Blue Ridge Literacy Council is
to provide adults in Henderson County the
English communication and literacy skills
they need to reach their full potential as
individuals, parents, workers and citizens.

Program Description:
The Council trains, coordinates and supports volunteer tutors who provide free one-to-one tutoring for adult students who seek our help. Potential students are evaluated and teaching materials selected to match the student's present skill level. Once paired, tutor and student meet 2 times a week at a mutually convenient time and place. The teaching materials allow volunteer tutors to work with non-readers and as well as those who need to improve the skills they have to accomplish their goals.
Program Long-Term Success:
97.6% of adults used their improved reading/writing skills to achieve one or more of their individual goals.
