Program Description:
The NCCF is the single statewide
community foundation serving North
Carolina and has made nearly $63 million in grants since
its inception in 1988. With more than $100 million in assets, the NCCF sustains
nearly 1,000 endowments established to provide long-term support of a broad
range of community needs, nonprofit organizations, institutions and
scholarships. The NCCF partners with 60 affiliate foundations to provide local
resource allocation and community assistance in 66 counties across the state. An
important component of the NCCF’s mission is to ensure that rural philanthropy
has a voice at local, regional and national levels
During its fiscal year ended March
31, 2009, the NCCF granted more than $4.5 millionto a wide spectrum of charitable causes that
benefited citizens and communities throughout North Carolina. Funds for these grants come
from unrestricted, field of interest, designated and donor-advised endowments.

Program Description:
Women in
Philanthropy
Through the establishment of a
Women’s Giving Group, women from across the state can direct their charitable
interests in focused, purposeful and strategic ways. Like volunteerism,
philanthropy is a collective endeavor. However, because these funds are more
strategic in approach, they allow members to solve issues and problems at the
source.
The
North Carolina Community Foundation continues its long history of supporting
women as philanthropists and has worked to establish new women’s giving groups
to serve communities across the state while continuing to the build our Women’s
Fund, a statewide endowment fund focused on the needs of women and girls across
the state.

Program Description:
Youth in
Philanthropy
The North Carolina Community
Foundation’s Youth in Philanthropy initiative is a joint endeavor between local
community foundation affiliates, school administrators, local youth serving
organizations and Leading to Change, a technical partner providing expertise in
curriculum development.
The program provides a vehicle for
young people to connect on educational issues, build leadership skills, develop
creative and analytical thinking and nourish community involvement. The
initiative is designed to teach young people to give responsibly and to help
create a new generation of philanthropists.
The ten-month program focuses on
training young people on how to become philanthropists and how they can make an
impact in their communities. While philanthropy is an inclusive term that
encompasses volunteerism, leadership and grantmaking, the curriculum we use
prepares young people for grantmaking, while also grounding them in the broader
concepts of philanthropy.
