Mission Statement

Camp Sunshine enriches the lives of children with cancer and their families through recreational, educational and support programs allowing them to share similar experiences and to participate in activities that promote normal childhood development as they cope with the challenges of childhood cancer.

Impact Statement

In 2010, Camp Sunshine served over 850 children with cancer and their families with 144 programs throughout the year reaching thousands of children and family members.  In addition to summer camp and weekend family camps, Camp Sunshine held programs in regions throughout the state of Georgia, provided programs to hospitalized children and offered ongoing programs at Camp Sunshine House.

Prior to joining Camp Sunshine as Executive Director in 1987, Sally Hale, a master's prepared registered nurse, worked as a pediatric oncology nurse. She has been involved with Camp Sunshine since its inception in 1983 serving as a volunteer medical adviser and camp nurse.

CEO/Executive Director Statement:

Although we started as a summer camp, Camp Sunshine is much more - offering much needed support to families coping with the challenges of childhood cancer.  Camp Sunshine strives to be available to families of children with cancer of all ages, birth to young adults, at all points along their journey with cancer - providing hope, community and a renewed spirit.

Program Description:

Two one-week residential camps for children with cancer.  One week is for children 7-12 and one week is for teens 13-18.  Camp provides all the activities of most camps with pediatric oncology nurses and doctors on site at all times to provide necessary medical care, chemotherapy and other treatments.

Program Description:

Camp Sunshine offers four Family Camp Weekends during the year.  The weekend is a time for the families of children with cancer.  Spending time with other families who have faced similar challenges and participating in family educational and recreational programs can have a dramatic positive influence on their adjustment.  Families become a part of a community of support and understanding.  One family wrote, "At a time of such despair, Camp Sunshine was our place of HOPE and COMFORT."
