Mission Statement
Lexington Rescue Mission exists to serve and glorify God through Christ-centered ministry that meets the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of hurting people in the greater Lexington area.

In 2009, Lexington Rescue Mission:
- Served 21,594 meals to the hungry
- Provided 429 people with free clothing, furniture and housewares
- Provided job-readiness training to 260 people
- Provided 281 free medical visits for the sick
- Prevented 187 individuals and families from being evicted or having their utilities shut off
- Provided 3,571 nights of lodging to men in our Life Renewal Program, a one-year substance abuse recovery program
- Provided life-skills training to 176 people

Chief Executive Profile:
Jim Connell is the founder and executive director of the Lexington Rescue Mission. In April 2001, Jim left his home and career in Columbus, Indiana to move to Lexington and start the mission. Jim is a former CPA and served as the Chief Financial Officer for a Quinco Behavioral Health Systems, a regional community mental health center. From 1996 to 1997, Jim served as a Project Manager to start a free medical clinic staffed by volunteer nurses and doctors. Following this work, he joined the staff at the Columbus Regional Hospital Foundation to conduct their annual fundraising efforts.
Jim lives on the north side of Lexington with his wife Becky. Jim has two grown children, Laura who works as Development Director for the mission and Brian who works as the Senior Legislative Director in Washington DC for Congressman Brad Ellsworth of Indiana. Jim and his wife are members of Immanuel Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky.

Program Description:
People in need of a hot, nutritious meal can find one at the Mission. Free lunch is served on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at noon. Our thrift stores provide clothing and household items at low prices, and those who can't pay are given vouchers to shop for free.

To help men and women become self-sufficient, the Mission offers a variety of classes, including employment prep, budgeting, parenting, and tenants rights and responsibilities. One-on-one housing and job counseling are also available for those in need of employment or housing.
