CEO/Executive Director Statement:

Operation Stand Down Nashville, Inc (OSDN) is truly a community-supported organization. OSDN began in 1993 as a coalition of over 50 community organizations coming together once a year for a three-day event providing outreach, information and much needed social services to homeless veterans in the Nashville area. The coalition included national, state and local organizations and agencies and has continued to grow each year. An annual three-day event has been held each year since. We are very proud that 46 of the original coalition organizations have continued to participate each year and are still supporting OSDN. In October 2010, well over 125 organizations providing almost 700 volunteers joined together for Nashville's 18th Annual Operation Stand Down Event to provide outreach, information and a wide range of services for over 408 veterans. As the only nonprofit organization in this area daily providing a wide range of services solely for honorably discharged veterans, we are very proud of our broad community based roots. They have been and continue to be the core of our success providing and/or coordinating services for veterans. In 1999, The OSDN Board of Directors elected to become a full-time agency. Opening a Service Center and a Transitional Housing Program we were able to provide a variety of services for homeless veterans on a daily basis. Starting with one full-time employee in 1993, we now employ 28 full-time and 5 part-time people. OSDN has been recognized regionally and nationally for its successful efforts helping veterans find and maintain productive employment. Our Transitional Housing Program provides assistance to those Veterans dealing with addictive and controling issues in their life who have asked for help.  We are very proud to report that 64% of those who successfully complete our program are living responsibly again six months and longer after leaving OSDN. Financial reports shows that we average spending more than 94 cents of every dollar on direct services for veterans, of which we are very proud.
