Mission Statement

The mission of Naples Equestrian Challenge is to improve the lives of children and adults with special needs through therapeutic riding and other equine-related programs.

Impact Statement

Therapeutic riding facilitates physical, cognitive and emotional development in individuals with disabilities. The activities at NEC offer participants an opportunity to develop skills in a setting that is fun and engaging yet challenging. These skills have the power to change the life of a person with a disability. The gains that NEC has seen in its riders have helped make it possible for them to communicate, walk and maintain their balance. Participant outcomes are measured by setting goals in individualized lesson plans and using progress reports. We often hear that the horses and instructors at NEC inspire our riders in a unique way to work hard and succeed – many parents report that their children are willing to exert efforts at NEC that other therapeutic settings have failed to illicit in them. For some participants, the ability to come to NEC each week has made the difference between being able to take those first few steps independently versus relying on a wheelchair for life.
