Executive Director - Charmaine Smith, Founder and Executive Director of Discovering Options, recruits staff, provides consistent support, guidance and supervision . Charmaine possesses a Bachelor's Degree in General Studies, and has 17 years of experience delivering social service programs. Charmaine's role is to train, direct and supervise coordinators, to develop and oversee projects, build and retain community relationships, increase visability of agency, assure the quality of programs and lead Discovering Options based on the strategic plan and the board's assessment of the organization's capacity.
CEO/Executive Director Statement:
The need for high quality after school programs is high in the areas we serve. In the City of Saint Louis, around 40% of families live below the poverty 100% poverty level. In the area targeted for the PREP program, the median family income is around $20,000.00 compared to $38,000.00 for the City of Saint Louis and around $46,000.00 for the State of Missouri (U.S. Census, 2000). Only one of the 115 counties in Missouri has a higher poverty index than the City of Saint Louis. Discovering Options made a difference in the lives of 292 children and their families FY 2009. Our programs give children confidence, new skills, support and the chance to learn how big the world really is.
