Impact Statement
The CBCST prospered in its location at 332 West Craig Place in the Monte Vista neighborhood for nine years. Our enrollment increased by 60% over the past four years alone. As the demand for our services has grown, we have responded by adding, adapting and enhancing our programs in an effort to reach more grieving youth. In 2009, we called upon our community to help us serve more grieving children and families than ever before - more than 1,100 children and their caregivers received free grief support services at the CBCST.
We also became the victims of our own success and found ourselves stretched to capacity at our existing location. We knew we could not further expand programs in our facility on Craig Place, so once again, we called upon our community. The cornerstones of our success have rested on the shoulders of volunteers, donors and advocates who have helped The Children's Bereavement Center by raising awareness and expanding community support for the advancement of our mission. As a result of an outpouring of support, we were able to expand our capacity with the purchase and renovation of a new facility - and with it the ability to triple the number of clients we are able to serve! By the end of 2009, we were putting the finishing touches on our beautiful new home located at 205 West Olmos.

A native Texan, Traci Burkhart Gomez was born in San Antonio and raised in Kerrville. She received a BA in psychology from the University of Texas and began her career in Austin. She now returns ?home? to San Antonio with her husband, Roger and step-son, Grant and has been named the new Executive Director for The Children?s Bereavement Center of South Texas. Traci brings over 15 years of professional experience to the CBCST. Her background in executive management demonstrates success and concentration in the fields of education, youth and family programming, business and operations management, new program and staff development, fundraising, public relations and fiscal management. Traci possesses a sound mission-driven ethic and has devoted her career to building strong children, families and communities through her work. Her focus will now be dedicated to carrying out the mission of providing help and support to grieving children and their families. ?For our children and families, the physical space of the Children?s Bereavement Center is like a fortress, as it is a safe place to come and experience the healing benefits of being nurtured by others who understand. The children feel safe here. They discover they are not alone. The support and encouragement they receive at the CBCST helps them know that THEY have the power to face death. It is truly humbling to know that children and families will experience hope and healing because of the work you do.? said Gomez
