Impact Statement

In the past year Mid-Cities Care Corps (MCCC) caring volunteers drove 25,593 miles supporting this mission. This includes 1,285 round trips for medical appointments, food delivery, quality of life trips on Saturdays, Holiday Outreach, and Helping Hands projects. Volunteers completed 130 Helping Hands service orders that tended to minor home repairs, construction of wheelchair ramps, installation of grab bars, Adopt-a-Yard during the growing season, and group work days. Efforts to expand group work days resulted in over 3300 new volunteers experiencing and tending to needs of seniors in the community. While these volunteers may represent a one time experience with MCCC, reactions revealed they gained a life-time awareness of the opportunities to assist and serve senior neighbors. The MCCC database records include 528 registered seniors and 262 registered volunteers. Volunteers provided 3,967 volunteer hours supporting the four primary service programs in 2010.

Funding Needs

MCCC annual operations are managed within annual income. The growing senior population is resulting in expanding needs for transportation, Helping Hands assistance, and opportunities to break isolation. MCCC delivers services through a lean operation that balances available time and resources to maintain the dependability of existing services while managing the routine and necessary organizational demands of a non-profit.
In the past year MCCC achieved two objectives in the current Strategic Plan 1) incresased the number of seniors serviced  2) expansion of the Helping Hands group work days and 3) implimentation of the TLC Phone Tree program and 4) promote awareness of senior isolation and MCCC services to address. The result MCCC assisted 196 clients in 2010 a 10% increase with additional details in the 2010 Annual Report.
MCCC is committed to preserving the established mission, dependability, and legacy of outreach to senior neighbors in the community through caring MCCC volunteers.

Volunteer Needs

All MCCC services are provided by Caring Volunteers who provide their time, vehicle, gas, and energy. Anyone with three hours a month to spare is considered a potential candidate for MCCC, the typical time to transport a client to a routine medical appointment. The reward for volunteers is the "genuine" thank you and occasional hugs shared by the seniors that are priceless!

Request for In-Kind Contributions

MCCC welcomes In-Kind contributions and continues to promote awareness of the services provided through MCCC that would encourage such potenial support. MCCC has the "Donate-A-Clunker" program that accept donation of vehicle for the mission. Support is also welcomed for the annual Festival of Freinds celebration held teh first Thursday in November with a dinner, live, and silent auction.

Winter Wonder Land
February 28, 2010

Winter Wonder Land!

February provided a winter wonder land experience for Metroplex residents. 2010 will be bookmarked in the memories of the north Texas residents; the young the wonder of experiencing a sled ride for the first time and for adults the first time dealing with the consequences of the 12” of the white stuff in Texas. For all it resulted in an unexpected pause and appreciation for the wonders and showcase of Mother Nature.

Mid-Cities Care Corps (MCCC) experienced another consequence from this unexpected Winter Wonderland incident. Wednesday, February 17 at 12.15 P.M. our office received a call from Bobbi, the Director of the Haltom City Senior Center, inquiring if there was any help we could give to a senior neighbor in the area. Ms. Dorothy was without electric and had been out for six days because of tree limbs that broke off from the weight of the snow and took out the power entrance cable and damaged the meter entrance to her residence. She did not have the financial means to employ a certified electrician necessary to past code and city permits to reconnect the power entrance. The condition was further complicated because her daughter and brother, both disabled by extenuating health conditions, are also residences in the home.

Within 23 hours MCCC had resolved the issues and Ms. Dorothy’s power was back on! Duane and Peter, one of MCCC Caring Helping Hands project leaders, were on site inspecting the situation by 2:45 P.M. The need was clear and obvious, as we pulled up to the residence greeted by Ms. Dorothy and her daughter seating nestled in the selter of the front porch entrance bundled up absorbing Nature’s sunshine to warm up. The client was utilizing burners on the kitchen gas stove for inside heat with candles throughout the home for lighting.

Complications existed to resolve this dilemma to ensure code compliance for reconnection of the service. Thanks to Linda and Roy at the city offices of Haltom City for their advice and commitment to direct MCCC as necessary to resolve this situation. Thanks to Peter for going the “extra mile” as a caring MCCC Volunteer to project manage this Service Order to resolution by going back on site Thursday to coordinate the efforts with a licensed electrician.

Special thanks to an anonymous caring supporter of the MCCC mission who covered the resulting cost. This individual connected with the MCCC mission because of parents out-of-state. Current schedules prevent the commitment of volunteer time to support MCCC. The individual did offer to support MCCC anonymously, for such some unexpected client needs that are beyond the financial resources of MCCC. A call regarding Ms. Dorothy situation resulted in quick approval to support MCCC as necessary to get it resolved. Thanks.

What a wonderful experience! Mother Nature revealed an amazing showcase for all to enjoy during the Winter Wonder Land hiatus. The incident also revealed the genuine spirit of citizens, caring volunteers, and generous supporters that willingly teamed together with MCCC to go the extra mile “to preserve the independence of senior neighbors in N.E. Tarrant County”.

Per Ms. Dorothy “thanks to you all”! And to Mother Nature, we are looking forward Spring time!
