Program Description:
The Armed Forces Foundation’s PTSD/TBI initiatives include our Help Save Our Troops campaign, which focuses the startling suicide statistics with active duty members and Veterans. This campaign advocating for legislation to extend Tri Care mental health benefits for an additional 18 months after leaving active duty service, as well as advocating for TeleHealth and Telemedicine for those suffering from PTSD. One major program in this category, Operation Caring Classroom, is a national education initiative implemented in more than 100 schools across the U.S. aimed to educate military and civilian children about Veterans Day and things military children face while their parents are deployed. We also have placed an additional school counselor at Fort Belvoir - a civilian ran, heavily military impacted elementary school - who specializes in dealing with children who have parents affected by mental health issues, service injuries and multiple deployments. This counselor also helps alleviate the workload of counseling a large number of military children.
