Impact Statement from Nonprofit

Operation School Bell is our largest program.
School counselors from all six of our school districts refer children who are disadvantaged.  Our volunteer members meet these children at local department stores and register the students, give them a shoe voucher to a local department store, and then assist  them with the purchase of school appropriate clothing.  Since its inception in 1988 over 35,000 children have received this assistance.
Poison Information-Always Ask is an education program for preschool and kindergarten children warning of poisonous substances in the home.  This past year over 5,000 children received this information.  The Assault Survivor Kit program provides a change of clothing and personal hygiene items to victims of assault.  A major part of this program is providing art and play therapy items to agencies counseling chldren who are victims of abuse.  Our Passport for Good Health program provides a booklet for parents to record immunizations and pertinent health information for their newborns.  A passport for Seniors to record medical history, medicine and other healthcare requirements has also been developed.  Last year 8,000 passports were distributed.  Please refer to our website at wwww.assistanceleaguemont-co.org for more information regarding our other programs; Scholarship, Community Outreach, Tender Lovng Care Dolls, Pass it On, and Fans for Friends.  Our goal is to put commitment and caring in action through our community based philanthropic programs.

Chief Executive

Vicki Sucher

Term:

Since June 2011

Chief Executive Profile:

I joined Assistance League in the fall of 2004 and became member of the board June 2006 as secretary. This was a great way to begin my board service and I served in that position for two years. Then I accepted the position of Property Manager for one year which was an easy transition for me since I had been previously employed as a Facility manager for a large engineering company. My next position was V P Philanthropic programs which oversees, at that time, eight programs. This was very rewarding because it allowed me to learn so much about how we benefit Montgomery County and improve the lives of its residents. During this time I also served on a National committee, Conference Administration, who is responsible for organizing AL’s leadership training and annual conference. This allowed me to work closely with members from chapters from all around the Country. The nominating committee, developing the slate of offices for 2010-2011, offered me the position of President-Elect. This allowed me to participate in all committee meetings and to increase my knowledge about our Chapter. I am currently serving a one-year term as President.

CEO/Executive Director Statement:

Assistance League of Montgomery County is an all volunteer organization with no paid staff.  All philanthropic programs are community based.
