Program Description:
Operation School Bell, begun nearly fifty years ago as a one-woman effort to provide clothing to disadvantaged children, came to the Montgomery County Association in 1988. It is now the signature national philanthropic program for Assistance League and is the only program that is shared by the 119 chapters and guilds nationwide. Operation School Bell volunteers work with Montgomery County school counselors to ensure that children in need receive appropriate school clothing.
Program Long-Term Success:
We have dressed over 30,000 children in Montgomery County since we began Operation School Bell in 1988.
Program Short-Term Success:
In September, 2010 Assistance League members helped children choose brand new, stylish clothing for their back-to-school wardrobe.
Over 3000 children in Montgomery County were provided with two new sets of clothing: a sweatshirt, six pairs of underwear, six pairs of socks, a personal hygiene kit and a voucher for new shoes.

Fans for Friends

Program Description:
Assistance League distributes fans and blankets to seniors in need who suffer from the extreme Texas weather.
Program Long-Term Success:
Over 5,229 senior citizens were served through the distribution of fans and blankets through the Fans for Friends program and almost $77,000 has been spent.
Program Short-Term Success:
In 2009-2010, Fans for Friends served over 1066 clients through eight different agencies throughout Montgomery County. These agencies include: The Mission, Society of St. Vincent DePaul, The Friendship Center, Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Association, Salvation Army, Tamina Community Center and Montgomery United Methodist Church Food Bank.

Passport for Good Health

Program Description:
Provides a booklet for recording immunization and health information that is distributed to all families of newborns in the local hospitals. A senior edition of the passport was developed to record important health information for seniors. These books are distributed at local senior centers, agencies and health centers. An infant layette is also provided to Conroe Regional Hospital for economically disadvantaged families. Approximately 40 layettes are provided per month.
Program Long-Term Success:
We continue to get addtional requests for newborn passports as well as the senior addition. We currently provide them to several hospitals in the area.
Program Short-Term Success:
The committee distributed 7,716 passports during 2009-2010 reporting year.

Program Description:
Poison Information-Always Ask teaches thousands of pre-school and kindergarten children about dangerous substances in the home. "Always Ask" is the popular lesson brought by our volunteers, who encourage the kids to decide whether a product belongs to "Mr. Yuk: or "Mr. Yum". Information is also sent home to the families to instruct them on proper storage of hazardous items and to encourage the children to "Always Ask" before putting something in their mouths.

Tender Loving Care Dolls

Program Description:
Tender Loving Care Dolls are handmade by our members especially for abused children. The dolls are individually dressed and decorated to have a happy face on one side and a sad face on the other. They are given to counselors who work with children suffering the trauma of abuse. An expansion of this program has made these dolls also available to agencies for the aged.
