Pediatric Sarcoma Community Education
- Budget:
-
$31,000
- Category:

Diseases, Disorders & Medical Disciplines
- Population Served:
-
Children and Youth (infants - 19 years.)
Program Description:
Children and young adults are dying from pediatric sarcomas. Many pediatric sarcoma symptoms are ignored and/or misdiagnosed due to athletic participation, growth factors and/or normal childhood aches and pains. Daniele “Dani” Stell was misdiagnosed for a period of six months. Her Ewing’s Sarcoma cancer was growing and spreading to other areas of her body during that time of multiple doctor visits and misdiagnosis. Statistics show that the earlier a cancer is detected; medical treatment can eradicate the cancer with the goal of seeking higher survival rate.
Targeted Population: All children and young adults
Benefits: Awareness of pediatric (children and young adult) sarcoma symptoms and need for proper medical testing should symptoms persist; thus seeking earlier detection and ultimately survival.
Dani’s Foundation is working to develop and implement a community education program that will be distributed to frontline professionals with the goal of educating the community at large on the symptoms of pediatric sarcomas and encouraging the need for medical testing should classic symptoms prevail.
Dani’s Foundation will develop the following materials that will be distributed to school nurses, coaches, athletic directors and trainers, physical therapists, pediatricians and other medical professionals:
· Letter of Introduction and Campaign explanation
· Pediatric Sarcoma Informational Brochure
· Pediatric Sarcoma “baseball card” featuring Dani’s photo on the front side and sarcoma symptoms on the back side
· Pediatric Sarcoma Posters to be placed in all professional offices
