Chief Executive
Mr. Carl Colonius
Chief Executive Profile:
colonius@youthcorps.org
"I like to work at RMYC because we have cool hats. And speaking of hats, I get to wear a lot of them here. RMYC was started from an almost selfish mindset: we wanted to help the community we lived in be an easier place to grow. I know I have grown through being involved with The Corps; I hope others have gotten what they need from our efforts."
"Seeing RMYC grow, all that it means to so many people, it's amazing what has
developed in such a relatively short time. It is a testament to the extraordinary people involved in the mission of RMYC: The community, our tremendous staff, incredible
corpsmembers... I feel very lucky to be a member of such a committed group of
folks. And we have great hats. Y'all should get one."
Carl manages all of RMYC's programs and monitors staff and crew performance. He
was the recipient of a Youth Service America Social Entrepreneurs grant to help found RMYC and spent five years learning the game at the East Bay Conservation Corps in Oakland, CA. Carl completed a B.A. in English Literature from Carleton College, completed the Integrated Waste Management Certificate Program at San Francisco State University, and is teacher certified (K-12). Carl is trained in permaculture and xeriscape landscape design, urban streams restoration, advanced wilderness first aid, water safety and rescue, ropes course facilitation, ski instruction, and much more. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Corps Network. Carl has a strong knowledge of environmental issues and is an outstanding and experienced facilitator, particularly with youth.
