Impact Statement from Nonprofit
Quality of Care Depends on the Quality of the Caregiver. For 10 years, the CareGiver Training Institute (CGTI) has educated individuals who share our commitment to this principle. As a result, our graduates are now working every day to improve the quaility of life for Southern Arizona's elders and individuals with disabilities and chronic illnesses..
Like many other nonprofit organizations, we had an economically challenging year in 2010. The good news is that we ended the year stronger than expected and graduated 203 CNAs and Caregivers, a number that has held steady for 3 years in a row.
We are proud of the fact that our student demographics, particularly in regard to race and ethincity, generally align with those of Tucson and Southern Arizona. Interestingly, we serve students of all ages from 17 to 72. On average, 84% of our students are female.

Program Description:
The CGTI model program includes 200 hours of comprehensive training that teaches caregiving skills and theory, success skills, cooking classes, test preparation and prepares the student for certification as both a professional Caregiver and a Certified Nursing Assistant. Potential students are actively recruited from the community and are predominantly economically disadvantage individuals. All candidates are throughly screened for aptitude and characteristics that make up a quality caregiver. The extensive training program remains economically accessible due to job training dollars and the generous support of indiviual donors. The program, which provides classes, equipment, social service support, testing fees and job placement, costs the CGTIover $3,300 per student. The average student pays $1500 of this amount. CGTI proudly maintains the policy that no student will go into debt to receive this training.
Program Long-Term Success:
Since graduating it's first class in 2002, CGTI has helped over 1200 alumi obtain the skills and experience needed to provide care to those in need in assisted living communities, hospice as well as private duty care in a residents home. With a CNA exam pass rate of 86%, and a job placement rate of 72%, CGTI is proud to be the largest CNA training program in Southern Arizona.
Program Short-Term Success:
With the recent turn of the economy, and an increase of dislocated workers, CGTI has helped those in need of an education, to help others in need, in a job field which continues to grow. CGTI makes education available to develop a greater workforce, and is able to do so without current or prospective students going into debt.
Program Success Monitored by:
Arizona State Board of Nursing, Arizona Private Postsecondary Education Board, Arizona Department of Education and the Arizona Department of Health.
