Impact Statement from Nonprofit
In 2011, Crossroads continued to serve thousands of Utahns in need through our emergency food pantry and thrift store programs.
The use of our
emergency food pantry is up 19% since 2007, and our thrift store is serving 36%
more people with free items than in 2007.
Our advocacy programs continue to play a key role in public policy on issues such as low income housing, tax policy, anti-hunger, homelessness, and health care. In addition, Crossroads is currently completing work on a model unit for a new low cost housing pilot project begun in 2011.

CEO/Executive Director Statement:
Crossroads is a rare nonprofit in the sense that we combine both direct services for low income people with a robust advocacy and community organizing emphasis that targets the root causes of hunger and poverty. We serve as a catalyst for the development of new initiatives, many of which have become permanent community resources independent of Crossroads.

Program Description:
Crossroads is best known for operating one of Utah's busiest emergency food pantries, the Luisa E. Lema Emergency Food Pantry. An emergency fund to help with bus tokens, gasoline, rent, utilities, and prescriptions is also available, as are referrals to the Crossroads Thrift Store for free household items, blankets, and clothing. In addition we work on the issues causing people to need such services through community organizing and advocacy.
Program Long-Term Success:
Efficient and effective delivery of the emergency services that prevent hunger and deprivation in our community is our primary goal. In addition, progress on initiatives to eliminate the need for such service is key to long term success.
Program Short-Term Success:
The food pantry serves thousands with food and other
emergency services each year. The Thrift Store gives away 90% of
everything we receive for free, and has the lowest prices in SLC. We
also provide over thousands of dollars worth of new shoes and clothing
to children in need each year.
Program Success Monitored by:
The Board of Directors closely monitors the effectiveness of our programs on an ongoing basis. We also do extensive surveys of our clients, donors, and other stakeholders as part of the needs assessment conducted during our long range planning process every five years.
Program Success Examples:
Thousands of people do not go hungry, hundreds are not evicted and do not have their utilities turned off, and thousands more are clothed and receive basic necessities because Crossroads is there.
Funding Needs
We receive very little public funding and are dependent on private donations.
Volunteer Needs
All our program utilize volunteers on an ongoing basis.
Request for In-Kind Contributions
