Impact Statement from Nonprofit
St. Vincent de Paul initiated a Mobile Kitchen Program (small café) with seating for between 15-18 inside and full licensed kitchen in the back. Meals are served three days a week in rural Clackamas County. The average number of people served at each site is 75. The meals are generally hot, always nutritious and well balanced. The Mobile Kitchen Program serves a community meal, everyone is welcome. Our volunteers serve each person with dignity and respect, the same as if they were in any other café. Another popular initiative sprouted from the Mobile Kitchen which is the Food for Kids meal package program. A container with 4 fresh fruit, 2 fresh vegetables, tuna, 4 slices of bread, peanut butter, cereal, fruit bar, snack bar, chips, crackers and mayonnaise is given to children between the ages of 3 and 18. This food package provides additional nutritious food for children when families have difficulties or are unable to secure adequate quantities for themselves. At this time we are distributing 500 food packages each month.
Our goal for 2010 is to bring this program into Multnomah and Washington Counties.
