Mission Statement

The mission of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Arizona is to provide a "Home Away from Home" for families seeking medical treatment or hospitalization for the serious illness or injury of a child. RMHC was founded with the understanding that in addition to quality medical care, sick children need the comfort and support of their family. A place where the family can remain close.
In addition to serving those families who have traveled outside of Tucson,  RMHC established the Ronald McDonald Family Room to support those families who are local. Located inside Diamond Children's Medical Center, it offers families of pediatric patients a place to relax, away from the stresses of the hospital, while still being close to their children. The Family Room offers families privacy and personal comfort as well as the opportunity for a light snack, a quiet room to read or to interact with other families who may be experiencing similar circumstances.

Funding Needs

With an average nightly cost of $90.00 per night per family, we are dependent upon individual, community and organizational support to sustain our operations. We ask the families to contribute $15.00 per night if they are able to do so. If families are unable to contribute that amount, we simply allow them to stay at no cost.
We are fortunate to have a strong relationship with the Southern Arizona McDonald's Owner Operators with their support of approximately 10% of our operational budget.

Volunteer Needs

We are dependent upon our volunteers to support the operations of both the Ronald McDonald House and the Ronald McDonald Family Room. If interested in volunteering please contact us at 520.326.0060 for an application and more information.

The Arizona Green Plumbers, Rooter 2000, Gerber Plumbing Fixtures and a "Water Smart House"
June 23, 2010
Tucson, Arizona   June 23, 2010 – An innovative idea and the collaboration between John Smith of Rooter 2000, Kate Griffin, PR Account Executive with Kleber & Associates, Ron Mudge and Kevin McJoynt of Gerber Plumbing resulted in the Ronald McDonald House Charities Southern Arizona receiving Tucson Water’s Platinum award making the house a “Water Smart” House.

John Smith, owner of Rooter 2000, wanted to provide green solutions for Arizona’s needs and more importantly, to make a difference in our community. Through the “Green’ segment of his business, he thought that by helping to make the Ronald McDonald House “green” it would help spread the word that green alternatives in plumbing are not only available but affordable and effective.  His next call was to Jon Cruz, Director of Educational Partnerships, Green Plumbers USA in Sacramento, California to tell him about his idea.  Jon loved it!

Jon Cruz contacted Kleber & Associates Public Relations Account Executive, Kate Griffin who was the liason between the Arizona Green Plumbers and Gerber Plumbing Fixtures. She, in turn, contacted Gerber Marketing Manager, Ron Mudge and the Vice President of Sales, Kevin McJoynt to supply all the plumbing fixtures including; low flow shower heads, faucets and high efficiency toilets. The installation was performed by the Arizona Green Plumbers as well as workers from the Phoenix office of Rooter 2000 who assisted their Tucson counterparts to get it done in a timely manner. All of their time and service was donated.

Overall, approximately 33 high efficiency dual flush toilets, 30 low flow shower heads and over 30 kitchen and bathroom faucets were donated to the 24,000 square foot house with an estimated value of just under $24,000.00.  It is estimated that the house will see a 20% reduction in water consumption during the next year. In addition, the original toilets and fixtures were donated to Habitat for Humanity of Tucson. Terry Dee with the Habistore in Tucson stated, “It’s a wonderful thing when one non-profit organization helps out another non profit organization. It is nice to see teamwork.”
