Impact Statement

Since 2007, JLMS provided music education to over 5,000 youth in Inglewood, California. We have established, strengthened, or expanded instrumental programs in public, private and charter schools in the Los Angeles Region. Less than 25% of the United States eighth graders have access to music programs. Unfortunately, those with the least access to music education are the minority children in the urban core, who need and deserve every opportunity to learn music if they desire.

Chief Executive Profile:

Michelle Love, a music education visionary, founded JLMS in 1996 with the desire to help unlock the potential for success in each child through music education. She received her California Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential through California State University Los Angeles in 1979 and has over 30 years of teaching experience.

CEO/Executive Director Statement:

It has been my greatest opportunity to watch our youth grow, change and mature. I’m always reminded about the many students in our program who have emerged from a troubled past, characteristically undisciplined and behaviorally challenged. Why, we have discovered, of course, that the inner spirit needed to be fed. Therefore, we have provided a safe haven for students to be themselves and enjoy the gift each has within them…music. It is no secret at Just Lovin’ Music Studios, Inc. that over and over we do witness miracles and observe changes in the lives of youth who participate in our music programs. Indeed, the students are taught the theory and mechanics of music; however, music isn’t just learning notes and playing them. Students are taught and learn notes to play to the music of your soul. I’m still amazed how this great medium, music, is making the difference.

Program Description:

JLMS is making it possible for private, public and charter schools to bring music programs, particularly instrumental instruction, back into the school curriculum.  Our 4 objectives are:  Improve academic performance, restoration of music in schools, social improvement and cultural awareness. We customize the programs to fit the school's curriculum or afterschool programs. Our instrumental programs include teachers, instruments, books, supplies, school liaisons and performance recitals. Our curriculum includes: Instrument technique, note reading, sight reading, music theory, ear training, music appreciation, music history, pillars of poise, and performance skills.

Funding Needs

JLMS has provided music to over 5,000 youth. This incredible journey began in 2001 culminating with a 100-piece orchestra consisting of 3rd through 8th graders. Unfortunately, the program was stopped for 5 years because of school budget cuts. It was heartbreaking to have to take the instruments away from the youth. The look in their eyes were as if we were removing one of their arms. Again, with the impending budget cuts, we are facing the possibility of the music stopping. Please don’t let the music stop.
