Notes from the Nonprofit

Character Counts Mid Shore's (CCMS) Winners Walk Tall program provides trained volunteers known as Character Coaches. In partnership with the three public school systems, these volunteers are placed in classrooms where each week they deliver lessons based on the Six Pillars of Character - trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. CCMS receives NO funding from the school systems nor any form of government.
In the 2013-2014 school year, over 8000 students are reached with character education lessons.

How does this organization make a difference?

Overview

Self-reported by organization

Over 8000 public school students are directly impacted by our character education program. Recently a 4th grade student wrote a letter to her Character Coach and stated, "You taught the class to never cheat or lie, to respect others, to respect myself and how to make new friends. Thanks to you I made a new friend who likes me just the way I am."
In 2007 the Maryland State Department of Education evaluated our program and found that schools who implement our program showed a increase in attendance rate and honor roll participation and a decrease in suspensions and discipline referrals.
