Program Name: SURGE Fellowship Program The SURGE fellowship program offers students in North Carolina a chance to participate in valuable environmental and social justice projects with the added benefit of SURGE network support and guidance. Program Name: Durham Bike Co-op The Durham Bike Co-op is a direct-service program designed to encourage the use of bicycling as a mode of transportation and recreation in Durham, NC. The DBC will direct programs using hands-on skill sharing among Durham youth and adults centered around bicycle repair and maintenance. Program Name: Campus Climate Challenge Through this program, SURGE works with the national Energy Action Coalition to engage youth in creating solutions to the world's leading environmental challenge - climate change. The Campus Climate Challenge encourages student-led environmental initiatives at North Carolina campuses which promote sustainability through progressive policy implementation and infrastructure projects. Program Name: Grassroots Energy Alliance The Grassroots Energy Alliance is a coalition of community and statewide nonprofits working to empower citizens of the Triangle area to take control of our energy future. Program Name: Blue Urban Bikes Blue Urban Bikes (BUB) is a community bicycle loan program in Chapel Hill/Carrboro, designed to provide a reliable source of clean, affordable and sustainable transportation to the citizens and visitors of Orange County, NC. Program Name: The ReCYCLEry Located in Carrboro, NC, the ReCYCLEry is a direct-service program designed to encourage the use of bicycling as a mode of transportation and recreation in Orange County, NC. The program functions through hands-on skill building where we teach people how to repair and maintain bicycles; salvaging bicycles ensuring that anyone who needs a bicycle can earn one; and outreach to underserved communities with these services. Program Name: Sustainable Learning Initiative The Sustainable Learning Initiative is a mentor-based program to establish collaborative, hands-on sustainability projects at Triangle area schools in order to provide the tools and resources to help today's youth build tomorrow's sustainable communities. These projects could include biodiesel production, solar installations, community gardening, composting and/or recycling projects that allow NC public school students the opportunity to learn new skills that they can use as building blocks to sustainable living and job training in the future.
