Overview

Self-reported by organization

AIER's independence from special-interest groups - and its close attention not only to proposed solutions of fundamental economic problems but also to useful procedures of inquiry into those problems - makes AIER unique among economic research organizations. AIER's long-run success attests the need for economic research carried out in such a manner.

Long-time Massachusetts executive Stephen J. Adams to head the institute. We are pleased to announce that Stephen J. Adams will join the organization as our new President. Before accepting the position with AIER, Adams served as Deputy Director of the National Fund for Workforce Solutions, a collaboration of national and local philanthropies supporting the career advancement of low-wage workers through employer engagement and system reforms. Prior to that, Adams represented the United States Small Business Administration as its New England Small Business Advocate, served as President and CEO of the Boston-based Pioneer Institute Public Policy Research, and was VP of the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City.
Previously, Adams served as Assistant Treasurer, Debt Management for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He also has worked as Maine's Director of State Planning, where he served as the chief economic, environmental and energy policy adviser to Gov. John McKernan.
"Stephen J. Adams is a proven leader with many years of experience building partnerships with academics, civic leaders, legislators, business organizations, philanthropists and the media," said Richard W. Brewer, Chairman of AIER's Board of Trustees. "He brings a wealth of expertise to AIER in regional economics, entrepreneurship, workforce development and public policy.
