Adding to its work in more than 30 countries, EDC began new programs in Guyana, Zambia, and the Philippines and continued a large-scale program to upgrade teacher training throughout Pakistan. Domestic accomplishments included development of a math curriculum for students with disabilities and creation of a new law and justice curriculum for high schools. Goals for the coming year include continuing to work with public-sector and private partners, to improve education, health promotion and care, workforce preparation, communication technologies, and civic engagement. EDC will conduct research and training and develop educational materials and strategy, with activities ranging from small seed projects to large-scale national and international initiatives.

Dr. Luther S. Luedtke

BIO

Luther S. Luedtke is president and chief executive officer of EDC. Since his appointment in 2006, Mr. Luedtke has led EDC's organization-wide strategic planning process, overseeing development of its new management structure and three programmatic divisions of work. Prior to coming to EDC, Luedtke was President of California Lutheran University and professor and administrator in English, American Studies, and Journalism at the University of Southern California. At various times, he has been a Fulbright Lecturer in Germany, a Distinguished Fulbright Scholar and Director of the American Studies Research Centre in India, and a Resident Scholar with the U.S. Information Agency. He has consulted widely for the U.S. Department of Education, the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, and other private and governmental bodies and is widely published in the fields of American literature and history and international relations. He received a bachelor of arts from Gustavus Adolphus College and a doctorate in American civilization from Brown University.
