The major programs of the Acton Historical Society are a research library of the town's history open to the public, monthly meetings with guest speakers on subjects relating to our local history for our members, monthly tours of our historic properties open to the public, annual reenactment of the Minutemen's march to the North Bridge and the battle at the North Bridge, and annual living history celebrations of Crown Resistance Day and Patriots Day.

Mr. William Klauer

BIO

William Klauer is a 56 year resident of the town of Acton. He participated in the first reenactment of the Minutemen's march to the North Bridge in 1957 and has contributed to the community since the age of 17 when he repaired the town clock for an Eagle Scout project and then maintained the clock for the next 37 years. The Acton Board of Selectmen appointed Mr. Klauer to the Acton Historical Commission in 1972 and he continues to serve on the Commission to the present. He wrote the book of our history "Acton" for the Images of America series and speaks often on topics of local history. He has served on the Board of the Acton Historical Society for more than 20 years prior to becoming President. Since 1968, Mr. Klauer has served on the Acton Fire Department. A Certified Fire Inspector, he has also served as a member and President on the board of the Fire Prevention Association of Masschusetts. He was appointed to the Governor's Task Force for Public Safety following The Station night club fire in West Warwick, RI as well as a State Committee to investigate and report on Barriers to Low Income Public Housing. A thirty-second degree Mason, Mr. Klauer serves his lodge as organist and his church as assistant organist. He is also a Deacon of his church and has served on numerous boards of that organization. He has remained involved with Acton Boy Scouts Troop 1 since joining in 1956 and serves now as a merit badge councilor and a sponsor for the Trooincluding Acton's antique fire engine which he drives in local parades. He is married to Amber Hayward who descends from George Hayward, one of 12 men who left Boston in 1635 to settle the town of Concord.
