Mission Statement

Founded in 1987, the City-Wide Friends of the Boston Public Library is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to advocacy and financial support for the BPL and its 24 branches. The CWF is governed by a Board of Directors elected annually. Officers and directors are uncompensated. Our income is derived from book sales, membership fees and donations. In 2013, 92% of our total income went directly to the benefit of the library.

Most expenditures go to support the "off-budget" requests from the library for equipment upgrades and programming, as well as the museum pass program. All of our grants to the BPL are designed to enhance or improve the patron/user experience. We also support individual branch Friends' groups through an ongoing revenue-sharing program and direct grants for special projects.
