Mission Statement

The goal of the BSF is to provide scholarship funding for speech therapy, primarily stuttering, to children and adults, who may not otherwise be able to afford it. As a secondary goal, the BSF aims to raise awareness of stuttering in the general public. The BSF realizes that insurance often does not cover therapy for stuttering. The BSF believes strongly that (a) early intervention is of paramount importance to improving the lives of children, and (b) intensive therapy for adults can be effective in changing lives.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Program 1

With hourly therapy costs running about $100, and a four-week intensive program for adults costing about $4000, these are prohibitively high expenses for many people and are rarely covered by insurance. However, these are programs which can radically alter lives with what the BSF believes is a minimal investment. For example, it is not atypical for a child to receive 4-6 months of therapy and be effectively 'cured' of stuttering. For an adult, we have seen numerous adults who have been able to achieve great success in managing their stuttering following a course of intensive therapy and proper follow-uthe BSF will establish an annual giving drive as well as grow its network of donors over time.
