Major programs include: Reflecting Connecticut - Reflejando a Connecticut, a project to increase diversity on state and municipal boards and commissions and non-profit boards; Connecticut Votes!-Connecticut Vota!, a coalition to promote voter education, registration and education; and Youth and Democracy, a research, education and action project dedicated to involving young people in the democratic process. In addition, Democracy Roundtables are held throughout the year to further discussion on public policy issues that impact our democracy. Public policy efforts are focused on racial justice, immigrant issues, election reform and voting rights restoration.

BIO

Joyce Hamilton Henry received a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Relations from the University of Connecticut, a Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Connecticut School of Social Work, and is a doctoral candidate at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University. She was the former Director of the Office of Multicultural Programs at the University of Hartford. In that capacity, she developed and implemented programs to assist with the recruitment and retention of students of color and to address broader issues of diversity and inclusion on the college campus. Since 1988, Joyce has been an Adjunct Professor at the University of Hartford in African American Studies and the Departments of Sociology and Psychology. She has presented numerous papers regionally, nationally, and internationally on race and ethnic relations, Caribbean immigrants, cross cultural counseling and supervision, consulted with many organizations, and has conducted numerous workshops regarding workplace diversity. She is published and is known nationally and internationally for her contributions in the field of social work. In June 2001, she was the recipient of the National Association of Social Workers (Connecticut Chapter) Social Worker of the Year Award. Joyce is a staunch advocate of issues pertaining to immigrants and is co-chair of the Connecticut Immigrant and Refugee Coalition. Joyce Hamilton Henry is committed to racial, social, and economic justice.
