Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Public Service
Amateur Radio is a valuable volunteer emergency communications service and public resource. ARRL's volunteer Amateur Radio operators help their communities in good times and bad, through community events, disaster response, and various programs. The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) consists of trained radio amateurs who provide public service communications support.
Advocacy
The ARRL is Amateur Radio's proactive advocate and representative voice in achieving regulatory and legislative success. Amateur Radio is subject to regulation at the international and national levels with regard to telecommunications and at the state and local levels with respect to land use regulations. ARRL advocates on behalf of Amateur Radio at all of these levels.
Legislative Activities: ARRL informs lawmakers about the contributions and needs of the Amateur Radio service.
Regulatory Activities: ARRL interacts with the FCC and other federal agencies involved in telecommunications policies.
State Advocacy: The ARRL volunteer Field Organization includes State Government Liaisons (SGL) who monitor state legislation.
Local Advocacy: ARRL supports local amateurs in representing Amateur Radio in their communities.
Education
ARRL offers a variety of educational programs and services which provide instructional opportunities and training for new, experienced, and prospective amateur radio enthusiasts.
1) Education & Technology Program (ETP): Teaching tools and resources, school station and progress grants, and connects educators with shared materials.
2) Teacher's Institute: ARRL's Teacher's Institute is a week-long workshop for classroom teachers to learn basic (TI-1) and advanced (TI-2) wireless technology principles for use in their classrooms, and to supplement their current STEM / STEAM curriculum. Teachers Institute is available to public, private, homeschool CO-OP, and university teachers/instructors.
3) ARRL Collegiate Amateur Radio Program (CARP): CARP was established to support and promote amateur radio among students and ham radio clubs at colleges and universities
4) License instruction support: Instructional materials for volunteer instructors
5) Youth, School and Civic Resources
Technology
For over 100 years, Amateur Radio operators have contributed to the advancement of the radio art. The ARRL Lab provides members with technical information services, trusted product-review testing, spectrum-protection engineering, professional industry contact and a comprehensive RFI/EMC program.
Radio Technology Topics: Amateur Radio has always developed hand in hand with electronics and radio technology.
RFI: As our lives become filled with technology, the likelihood of electronic interference increases.
ARRL Lab: The ARRL Lab provides a wide range of technical services and support to ARRL members.
Membership
The ARRL advances and advocates Amateur Radio through a strong membership base. Members have access to information, learning, programs & services to help get (and stay) active and on the air.
