Mission Statement

Wethersfield Historical Society's mission is to preserve and promote Wethersfield's history and culture to inspire people today and tomorrow.

Wethersfield Historical Society (WHS) is a private, non-profit community based organization which has been serving its community and the Greater Hartford area and the region for 84 years. The society owns or administers six historic buildings including the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center which houses its main museum. Current exhibits include Castle on the Cove: the Connecticut State Prison and Wethersfield which recently received state and national awards of merit. Other sites include the Cove Warehouse Maritime Museum, the Hurlbut-Dunham House, the Captain James Francis House and the Old Academy which houses the society's local history library and archives. WHS presents over 70 educational or cultural programs for the community each year, either free of charge or at a very low cost. WHS serves over 20,000 physical visitors each year, and another 60,000 use the educational resources on its website annually.
