Alumni Association was incorporated to maintain and promote the loyalty of the alumni of the College of Medicine and to promote the interest of the State University.

Tuition per SUNY Downstate med student is $38,250 (in state) a year, as of 2017, not including fees and living expenses. Many students come from families that have income below $60,000. Our scholarships are based on financial need.

Since 2002, the Alumni Fund has offered a fellowship to support full-time research for a medical student for one academic year.

Travel support for students taking the SUNY Downstate Public Health's Global Health in Developing Countries elective

As of 2014-2015, some 390 students have participated in this elective in some 41 countries in Africa, Asia, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Oceania. Most have spent six to eight weeks at overseas sites arranged by the course directors. The program at Downstate is one of the largest and most successful in the country. Some of its procedures and practices have been adopted by a number of other medical school programs, and by the International Health Medical Educational Consortium (IHMEC).

Support for the student-run Brooklyn Free Clinic

Under the guidance of volunteer physicians and faculty advisers, students help provide care and health maintenance screening to enrolled patients. The team also provides access to a network specialists who have volunteered to treat our patients for free. Students who volunteer at the clinic are highly motivated learners dedicated to community service. The support and generosity of the SUNY Downstate Medical Center gives us the means to provide the free, high‐quality services to our patients. Volunteers include students and physicians from the SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, College of Health Related Professions, College of Nursing, and School of Public Health.
