Program 1

WOHI is very proud of the preschool program. With about 70 students between the ages of 3 and 5, the preschool has grown 110% over the past ten years. Our teachers have raised the standards of education offered in Samsam Odumase. In fact, the instructors in the village's elementary school have commented on the significant preparedness of WOHI students for overall school work in comparison to other students who have attended preschool elsewhere. WOHI waives mandatory school fees, including enrollment, school uniforms, and books for all of the attendees. Currently, WOHI Preschool has a waiting list of 60 students. One of our challenges has been to welcome all children while reaching an optimal student teacher ratio. The clean potable water supply program has also helped WOHI's dedication to the health and wellbeing of the children of Samsam Odumase. The addition of two local water pumps, has not only had a positive affect on the health of the local children, but has also increased school attendance since children no longer need to walk long distances to fetch water. We recently expanded our efforts to support the World of Hope Soccer Team, coached by our HIV/AIDS education instructor, Ben Okang. Each member of the soccer team receives HIV/AIDS education training, which they are then encouraged to share with their peers. The popularity of the soccer program has expanded WOHI's HIV/AIDS awareness program to individuals who would have otherwise been difficult to access.
