Mission Statement

The Objectivist Center advances the philosophy first defined by novelist and philosopher Ayn Rand. The Center offers a wide range of educational and social programs for scholars, the general public, and the growing Objectivist community. These programs include research, training, public advocacy, courses, conferences, publications, and social events. And because Objectivism is a philosophy of reason, not dogma, the Center conducts its work in a spirit of free inquiry and intellectual tolerance. We are laying the intellectual groundwork for cultural regeneration; finding principled solutions to practical problems of modern living; fostering a benevolent community rooted in respect for individual human life and liberty.

Program 1

The Center's programs include research, scholarship, training, public advocacy, courses, conferences, publications, and social events. The annual summer seminar is the Center's best-known and most popular event. Held each year on a college campus, the conference has grown since 1990 from a single lecturer and fewer than two dozen students to more than two dozen speakers and nearly three hundred participants. Center conferences - such as the Ayn Rand Centenary Conrference in Washington, DC - bring together Objectivists, libertarians, humanists, and other public intellectuals to discuss the issues of the day. The Center's magazine, The New Individualist, features interviews with leading scholars and intellectuals, news about people and events in the Objectivist community, probing essays about philosophical issues, and reviews of significant works. The Center's website is constantly updated and carries a wealth of information about the Center's personnel, products, activities, newsletter features, debate forums and a searchable online archive of public and media references to Ayn Rand and Objectivism. The Objectivism Store is the Center's mail-order and publishing division. It offers a wide array of works by Center authors, including books, monographs, pamphlets, as well as audio recordings of lectures from Center events. It also sells a range of publications by Ayn Rand and other authors, including rare videotaped interviews with Rand.
