Mission Statement

Gesher Yehuda educates children with learning disabilities in a comprehensive day school program. A modified general education curriculum gives students appropriate instruction with needed accommodations. Through a program designed to stimulate intellectual curiosity , identify and use students' strengths, and expand their knowledge, our students acquire the essential academic and social skills expected of all elementary students in New York State. We help our students to develop a stronger sense of self and to become effective advocates for themselves as they learn to manage their learning disabilities and prepare for the future. Gesher Yehuda is a community where individuals can flourish, differences are accepted, and respect for the dignity of oneself and others is valued. Our goal is for our students to develop essential academic skills and increase their fund of knowledge, develop age-appropriate social skills and behaviors, build a strong sense of self, become active learners who assume responsibility for their own learning, understand and manage their learning disabilities, become effective advocates for themselves and enter the mainstream as they become ready.
