Mission Statement

Record numbers of retiring teachers and poor retention of young teachers due to low pay and faltering morale indicate a growing crisis in the teaching profession. The mission of TeachersCount is to (1) improve the public's perception of the teaching profession using public service announcements and related initiatives designed to recognize the accomplishments of teachers, and (2) provide services, resources, and information to teachers, prospective teachers, and others concerned about education.

The national social marketing campaign, presented by Time Inc., is comprised of print PSAs in Time Inc publications. These ads feature celebrities alongside their teachers and bear the tagline, "Behind every famous person is a fabulous teacher." In partnership with Scholastic, TeachersCount creates one page per issue in Instructor magazine. The concept of the recurring feature is "Behind Every Incredible Kid Is an Inspiring Teacher." TeachersCount coordinated a national teacher contest called the "OfficeMax Super Hero Teacher of the Year Contest," in partnership with Marvel Entertainment and OfficeMax, that recognized outstanding middle school teachers and the students who nominate them by turning them into real comic book characters. TeachersCount helped honor the 2006 NFL Teacher of the Year at the Pro Bowl in Hawaii on February 10, 2007. TeachersDisCount, a subsidiary of TeachersCount, provides discounts on goods and services exclusively to teachers. TeachersCount.org offers resources and information for teachers, prospective teachers and others who are concerned about education. Our programs are tailored to each audience member. Web visitors can learn about and reap the benefits of TeachersCount's partnerships with Hallmark, Jones New York In the Classroom, and other companies.
