Mission Statement

FIHE is the national partner in a network of member state and regional fundraising associations. The Foundation secures financial resources in support of America's independent colleges and universities and their students; develops collaborative programs within its network and with other organizations; and, together with its members, is a primary voice of independent higher education to corporate and philantrhopic communities.

Over the past five decades, FIHE has worked to perpetuate the special values and characteristics of America's private colleges and universities, strategically linking the corporate and philantropic objectives of business and industry with the strenghts and opportunities provided by a national network of 31 state and regional funds and their 580 member colleges and universities.

Program 1

FIHE sponsors the First Opportunity Partners program that helps to provide funding so that first generation, low-income, minority and new American students can attend our 650 private colleges and universities.

First Opporunity Partners

First Opportunity Partners is FIHE's signature initiative. Launched in 2005, FOP strengthens the ability of private higher education to serve first generation, low-income , minority, and new American students. Its three-fold purpose is to broaden the accessibility of higher education, to strengthen student retention and academic experiences, and to prepare students for the future world of work.

FIHE / UPS Scholarship Program

In concert with the UPS Foundation, FIHE distributes over $1.4 million in scholarship support each years to its state consortia, who in turn provide the funds to the proivate colleges in their state in the form of UPS Scholarships for students witcademic promise and financial need.

Funding Needs

Making college affordable for students whose families cannot afford the costs of higher education is THE top priority for FIHE and its member state consortia. With its excellent distribution network, all gifts and grants for scholarship aid can go directly to support students with academic promise and demonstrated  financial need.
