Mission Statement

The Jefferson County Radio Amateur Club, Inc. (JCRAC) was founded in 1977 to promote amateur (ham) radio, foster international fellowship and organize a cadre of citizen volunteers who can give back to the communities in which they live.

FCC Licensing Exam Program

Our Federal Communications Commission authorized Volunteer Examiner (VE) team offers monthly licensing examinations for members of the general public who wish to become Amateur Radio Operators.

Program 2

Annual Field Day Operating Exercise

The club hosts an annual "Field Day" operating exercise at our facility on the last full weekend of June each year. The event, organized as a contest, is intended to highlight Amateur Radio's ability to respond to disaster and adverse operating conditions.
 
The event takes place for a full 24 hour period and includes a public demonstration of Amateur Radio as well as the opportunity for those who are interested in Amateur Radio to try their hand at operating prior to sitting for an FCC licensing exam.

Educational Outreach

The club's educational outreach program brings amateur radio into local schools to reinforce the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math skills in today's career fields.
 
In cooperation with local schools and non-profits the program also makes our facility available to youth groups who wish to participate in Amateur Radio related activities. In the past these programs have included a weekend ham camp which includes licence preparation courses, on-the-air activities and camping to illustrate the educational and recreational benefits of the Amateur Radio service.

BIO

Fredric Letson has been a member of the organization for over twelve years. He previously served on the Board of Directors as the Treasurer of the organization for five years. During his tenure as Treasurer he increased gifts and grants from corporate donors by 110% over the previous five year period. He is a volunteer Firefighter / Paramedic and the owner of a successful business computer network firm.
