Mission Statement

IVIS was founded in 2000 as a non-profit educational organization to improve access to clinically relevant information for veterinary students and veterinary practitioners. The mission is to develop, organize and deliver up to date, expert information in all disciplines of animal health care and veterinary medicine to students and practitioners in developing countries and in Latin America, as well as to their counterparts in North America, Europe, Austral-Asia and Africa. The IVIS web site provides free access to IVIS-developed publications, databases and services, as well as a portal to other web-based veterinary resources.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Program 1

The IVIS effort is currently limited to the development and distribution of clinically relevant veterinary information via the Internet, and limited publication of books and book chapters. The IVIS publication project is intended to cover all aspects and disciplines of veterinary medicine and animals health care. A major part of the current program is the translation of IVIS publications into Spanish as a mean to provide up-to-date expert information to students and practitioners in Latin America, many of whom have no readily available alternative access to such information. The IVIS web site currently provides hundreds of topical reviews organized into electronic books each edited by highly qualified experts; proceedings of veterinary meetings maintained on the IVIS server, and links to other on-line Proceedings; lecture notes of short courses; continuing education resources including course lecture notes, manuals, and catalogues of links to web-based auto tutorials and similar; an IVIS-database driven calendar of regional, national and international veterinary events, searchable by location and species; organized links to abstracts of publications in veterinary journals; a catalogue of hundreds of Internet sites that are relevant to veterinary medicine and a brand new drug database containing information about pharmaceutical companies and their products. These resources can hopefully continue to be provided free of charge with the help of private and corporate sponsors.
