Mission Statement

HP Education Fanon, Inc. ("HPEF") is an educational non-profit corporation founded in 2002 to promote and produce educational Harry Potter themed symposia on an international scale. Our 2007 event, Prophecy 2007: From Hero to Legend (www.prophecy2007.org) is scheduled to take place in Toronto, Canada from August 2-5, 2007. HPEF draws significant support from members and visitors to such online fandom communities and websites as LiveJournal, FictionAlley, HP for Grownups, SugarQuill, the Harry Potter Lexicon, HP Automated News Aggregator, and the Leaky Cauldron, as well as from academicians from colleges and universities around the world. HPEF is committed to producing high-quality events that combine a professional and academic focus with the light-hearted spirit of the Harry Potter series for scholar and fan alike. By bringing these two seemingly disparate groups together, HPEF fosters learning and exploration of the Harry Potter novels and phenomenon from the perspectives of a broad spectrum of disciplines. HPEF produced its first event, Nimbus - 2003, in July of 2003, at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin hotel. Six hundred people from 12 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Germany, Luxembourg, Malaysia, and Japan, attended two and a half days of programming, including approximately sixty-five formal presentations, a Quidditch tournament, an interactive two-day Quest, and a charity auction. Our next event, The Witching Hour (http://www.hp2005.org) is set to take place October 6-10, 2005 in Salem, Massacheusetts, and our 2006 event is set for late July, 2006 in the Las Vegas, Nevada area.
