Mission Statement

The dual mission of Darwin Day Celebration is to promote public education about science and in addition to encourage the celebration of Science and Humanity throughout the global community including the general public, private and public institutions, science professionals, science educators at all levels, libraries, museums, the print and electronic media, and science enthusiasts everywhere. Since 2000 we have built a fine Web site at DarwinDay.org and a database for encouraging and publicizing Darwin Day events.

Program 1

Darwin Day Celebration develops all aspects of the Web site at http://www.DarwinDay.org. We report specifics of the growing number of Darwin Day Events that are planned, Darwin's Life as an example of the scientific method in use by a very human man, current scientific viewpoints about how evolution works, current political events and scientific discoveries relating to evolution, the history and structure of the Darwin Day Celebration project, and instructions for conducting some kinds of events around Darwin Day. In a relationial database we store information about the events that are planned and about the people who we know as either experts or supporters of education about evolution. Our Web site generates lists of events and of public supporters dynamically from the database. We also have a larger database that we use for targetted emailings to encourage people to conduct Darwin Day events. We are planning and programming methods that will allow people who read English and another language (even one that we cannot read) to act as translators. We are actively focussed on getting more support for this effort to make the celebration of Science and Humanity fully inclusive worldwide.
