Mission Statement

The mission of the American Indian Social Research Institute (AISRI) is to promote the provision of comprehensive, high quality technical assistance that is responsive, accessible, and coordinated to the needs of the American Indian community. AISRI will foster the ability of such communities to have greater capacity to utilize social, economic, educational, and health opportunities.

Program 1

Tribal Quality of Life Survey - Measures quality of life factors including the status and trends in workforce development, health, criminal justice, cultural preservation, and environmental stewardship in Indian country. The survey is perhaps the first of its kind in the region, perhaps the nation, that is specifically targeted toward Tribes. The Tribal Chairmen's Training Institute (TCTI) - Provides a curriculum to Tribal chairmen and other Tribal government administrators that is designed to build capacity in strategic, critical-thinking based policymaking in Indian country. The curriculum incorporates the professional experiences of former Tribal chairmen and others. Training and Technical Assistance (T/TA) - Ethnographic and survey research, cultural competency workshops, minority entrepreneurship workshops, and program evaluation. Redwing Memorial Scholarship Fund - Provides financial assistance to Indian graduate students who demonstrate potential for excellence in the social sciences and whose scholarly work would be translational in being of practical benefit in Indian country.

Enrolled member of the Santee Sioux Tribe of Nebraska, which is a federally-recognized Indian tribe. Before founding AISRI, Mr. Lake served as Executive Director of the Intertribal Bison Cooperative. Working towards a doctorate in sociology frm South Dakota State University. Masters degree in business from Antioch University.
