Mission Statement

The Driver Rehabilitation Institute (DRI) is a woman owned, 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that provides education, mentoring, and tools for Occupational Therapists working in the field of Driver Rehabilitation. The current focus of DRI is to develop medical evaluation and training tools for young adults with cognitive impairments such as Autism Spectrum Disorders and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

BIO

Ms. Monahan is an Occupational Therapist, Certified Driving Rehabilitation Specialist, and Vermont Licensed Driving School Instructor. She is currently actively involved in research at the University of Florida on adolescents with autism and ADHD and driving.

Ms. Monahan has been practicing in the field of Driver Rehabilitation Program since 1998 in a variety of settings including hospitals and private practice. She founded the non-profit Driver Rehabilitation Institute to further research, education and innovation in the field of driver rehabilitation. She lectures and consults extensively on the topic of driver rehabilitation, both locally and nationally to medical professionals, law enforcement, educational institutions and others. She has authored several textbook chapters on various aspects of driver rehabilitation. She has authored three courses for the American Occupational Therapy Association on the topic of driving for adolescents with special needs and was awarded the 2005 Clinical Practice Award by the Vermont Occupational Therapy Association

Ms. Monahan has also served as public relations chair for the Association for Driver Rehabilitation Specialists (ADED). She has participated in NHTSA-funded projects to educate law enforcement personnel about the impact of medical conditions on driving and guidelines for state motor vehicles departments on medical conditions and driving.
