Since the inception of our education program, The Sudanese Education Foundation has provided tutoring, scholarships, books, and supplies to over 50 refugees who arrived in the United States as young adults, having lost their childhood to the tragedy of war and refugee camps.  Seventeen have now completed their Bachelor’s degrees.  Four others have completed Associate’s degrees.  Several have become certified nursing assistants. Many more are working steadily on college, GEDs and basic education.  This, despite job losses, pay-rate reductions, hours cut backs, dire news from the Sudan, tuition increases, higher book costs and other challenges.  Why?  Incredible spirit, remarkable resilience, strong basic values, and the very real knowledge that education brings hope for the future. 

 The Foundation also supports the future with educational field trips, tutoring and special education for over 35 refugee children.  Some were orphaned by the war.  Others endured the experience of refugee camps.  Still others were born in Phoenix, to refugee parents who escaped before they were born.  All of their lives have been affected by the unspeakable brutality of a government whose sitting president now stands indicted for genocide and crimes against humanity.
