Mission Statement

As a safe, supportive environment, the Hudson Valley LGTBQ Community Center provides services, professional resources, and programs that unite the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community across lines of age, race, gender, and economics. Our purpose is to strengthen, support, and celebrate LGBTQ individuals, families, and groups in their efforts to achieve their fullest potential.

The Center strives for positive social change through advocacy, community education, cultural awareness, and wellness programs that assist in the creation, development, and growth of LGBTQ affirming organizations, institutions, and culture within the community at large.

BIO

A Founding Member of the Center, Jan is a familiar presence throughout the Hudson Valley. From her start as the Public Service Director for WDST of Woodstock, she has an ongoing record of support for public service and for the LGBTQ community. She served on the Orange County Safe Schools Coalition and co-chair of GLSEN Hudson Valley, and continued her career of service as director of the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley.

Jan served as the Center’s first Board Vice President (2005-2007), helping to draft the Center’s mission statement and bylaws and serving on multiple committees. After a hiatus from the Board, Jan was reelected to a three-year term at the Center’s 2012 Annual Meeting. She has chaired the Development Committee since 2012, and has served as the Center’s Board President since March, 2013. Her goal is to help to ensure the Center’s financial stability.
