Overview

Self-reported by organization

Founded in 2006, the Burbank Arts For All Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts education foundation and community-wide alliance of Burbank's business leaders, municipal partners, educators, parents and art supporters. Through our two annual grant making cycles and community building efforts, we support arts education programming in media, visual and performing arts for the over 15,000 students in the Burbank Unified School District (BUSD). The results of our work can be found in the classrooms, art presentations and performances at BUSD's schools. The Foundation has awarded grant funds supporting a wide variety of dance, theatre, music, fine art and media art productions or projects, artist in residency programs, arts integration programs, professional development for teachers, sound system upgrades and strategic planning for Burbank Unified School District's Arts for All plan. Our community building efforts are supported by our Community Outreach Working Group, comprised of parents, teachers, artists and community stakeholders who are aligned with our mission and assist the Foundation in the areas of Community Outreach, Schools Outreach and Volunteer Engagement.

Program 1

Burbank Arts For All Foundation Grants

Since its founding in 2006, the Burbank Arts for All Foundation has given over $380,000 in supplemental funding through its two annual grant cycles, in September and in March. Grants are awarded to projects/programs that specifically correlate to the Burbank Unified School District’s (BUSD) Arts for All Plan (http://www.burbankartsforall.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/BUSD-Arts-for-All-Plan-Final-2012-2022.pdf) and demonstrate high-quality, in-class instruction. During the March grant cycle, the Foundation also accepts applications for the Bowman Professional Development Grant, which funds professional development opportunities in arts education to both an individual and a group of educators in BUSD.

Foundation grants have provided funding for a variety of traditional arts programs – including visual, media, culinary, and performing arts – as well as professional development, facilities upgrades, and utilizing the arts as a teaching tool in other subjects such as English, European History and Math to deepen knowledge of academic standards. Many of the Foundation’s grants are matched by funding from the District, school site principals, PTAs, Booster Clubs, and local businesses and community partners. The effects of these funds can be seen in classrooms throughout BUSD.

Community Engagement & Advocacy

Burbank Arts for All Foundation provides year-round community engagement and advocacy efforts in support of arts education for all of Burbank Unified School District’s (BUSD) 15,000+ students. This is primarily done through the Foundation’s Community Outreach Group and Creative Circles Forum events.

The Community Outreach Group (COG) is a growing group of parents, teachers, artists, citizens, and community leaders working to keep arts education a priority in Burbank’s public schools. During the school year (September-May), the Foundation hosts seven complimentary Community Outreach Meetings to: celebrate what’s happening at individual school sites; advocate on behalf of arts education; support one another by sharing insight, achievements and struggles; and learn what’s happening in arts education policymaking on local, county, state, and national levels. More information on our Community Outreach Group can be found on our website at: www.burbankartsforall.org/community

The Foundation’s Creative Circles Forum is a one-hour panel discussion on a creative industry to bridge the gap between K-12 arts education and college or career readiness and local business, followed by a wine & cheese reception. Each panel is comprised of a selection of experts and educators in the highlighted field. These one-night-only Forums provide a rare opportunity for our community to gather together to support the future of not only our students, but the needs of the entertainment and media industries in Burbank as well. Burbank Arts for All Foundation believes it is up to all of us to ensure that our students have the resources they need to succeed in life, and the Creative Circles Forums are just one way the Foundation brings the conversation in full circle. More information on our Creative Circles Forums can be found on our website at: www.burbankartsforall.org/creative-circles-forum

Charting Impact

Self-reported by organization

Five powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

  1. What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our mission is to ensure every student in Burbank public schools receives a quality arts education as part of their core curriculum.

Our vision is to inspire Burbank to build the finest arts education program in the country.

    Strategic Goals:
    1. Continue developing diversified streams of revenue
    2. Continue to grow our grant-making program to ensure arts education for all students and its alignment with Burbank Unified School District's Arts for All Plan
    3. Raise awareness of the vision and mission of the Foundation to increase knowledge of its value in the community
    4. Continue to educate and engage the Burbank Community to support and advocate for arts education
    5. Continue to grow and build organizational infrastructure in order to achieve our mission and exceed our financial goals
  2. What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Burbank Arts for All Foundation is committed to growing its endowment fund and also providing much
needed funding for arts education in today's classroom. The purpose of the endowment is to provide a sustainable
monetary source for arts education grants while additionally supporting the stability and growth of the Foundation. The Foundation strives to be a sustainable and equitable source of arts education funding in Burbank's public schools for students, grades K-12.
Through its biannual grant cycles, the Foundation is able to support creative learning opportunities in BUSD. Funds are raised through donations, events and corporate contributions. The Foundation also works tirelessly to create awareness for the importance of arts education, by convening the community through complimentary monthly meetings during the school year, Creative Circles Forum panel discussions and successful annual fundraising events.
  3. What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
The Foundation supports a small staff and operates out of a small office, utilizing Quickbooks, Donor Perfect Online and other advanced strategic techniques to run its day-to-day operations and to complete its mission. The Foundation also engages a large pool of over 200 dedicated volunteers, consisting of Burbank parents, citizens, leaders and teachers, who help to extend the reach of the staff.
  4. How will they know if they are making progress?
The Burbank Arts for All Foundation is able to evaluate success and progress through:
-How much grant funding it is able to award
-How many students are impacted per grant cycle
    -Feedback from Community Meetings
-Increased attendance at events and meetings
    -Continued growth of donor base
    -Fiscal strength
  5. What have and haven't they accomplished so far?
The Foundation has made great strides in furthering its mission since it was founded in 2006. Funding has gone towards providing seed monies for teaching artists series at all school levels, media arts programs in all three middle schools, music education, elementary theatre programs and high school dance programs, and – most recently – providing supplies and materials for the culinary arts.
The Foundation's biggest challenge is capacity. With limited staff, our fundraising operations are also limited. Currently, the Foundation is working towards building an endowment or soliciting major gift investments to generate more funds that will help sustain more arts education programs within the District, as well as help to fund the organization's operations.
