BEDF

As of March 2005, BEDF has over 900 active accounts primarily from foundation and corporate donors to support after school programs, in-school arts, music, and academic programs, student support programs, professional development, scholarships, and memorial programs. BEDF charges no management fee: 100% of every gift, grant and fee is expended for the purpose for which it was given. The beneficiaries are the 60,000 inner city students of the Boston Public Schools. Funds donated to BEDF are invested in cash management accounts and are immediately available for expenditure by the individual authorized by the donor. Typically, a school principal is the authorized individual. BEDF's operating expenses are funded by the interest. Boston Public Schools provides BEDF with space, staff and direction through senior officers serving on the board. By design, BEDF's academic and support goals are the same as the Boston Public Schools' academic and support goals.
