Mission Statement

Wolfe's Neck Farm (WNF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable agriculture, education in agriculture and healthy food, and outdoor recreation while preserving 626 acres of open space and historic buildings. This diversified working farm includes forest, marsh, pasture, 4 miles of coastline, and a 130-site oceanfront campground. Open free to the public, WNF welcomes 25,000 people year-round. Created by LMC and Eleanor Smith in the 1950s, the farm is today operated by a board and a staff of 13 that increases by 40 in the summer and fall, supported by 250 volunteers. Set in the Harraseeket Historic District, one of the first and largest such districts in the state, WNF's historic buildings and views represent centuries of agricultural and maritime history just ½ hour from Maine's urban hub in Portland.
A pioneer in sustainable agriculture since the 1960s, WNF is currently expanding sustainable agriculture in Maine, working to increase the amount of food produced in Maine for local consumption, currently defined as 10%. Its parallel mission is to educate consumers about where food comes from and how to participate in supporting a healthy food system. Programs include: a summer day camp for 600 children, school field trips that touch thousands annually and a paid agriculture training program called Teen Ag for 10 local teens that includes vegetable gardening, management of a farm stand, a Community Supported Agriculture program and food donation program. The Organic Dairy Research and Farmer Training Program launched in 2014 for 8 apprentices in two-year programs with support from a grant from Stonyfield Farm and the Danone Ecosystem Fund, aims to revitalize the organic dairy industry in Maine and New England. WNF also attracts 3,500 locals and visitors to Spring and Fall festivals. Recreational opportunities while learning about farming and the natural world are available at oceanfront Campsites, hosting 30,000 camper nights annually.
