Mission Statement

In 1986, several members of the American Irish Legislators Society of the NYS chartered the IAHM to gather information on the Heritage of The Irish in America and present it in Exhibit and program form to Educate the 45 million that claim Irish ancestry and the general public at large. Since then we have refurbished an 1850 Victorian farmhouse which now serves as our exhibit Museum, assembled a 1500 volume research library and opened a modern office in Albany, NY. From there we develop programs, research topics and respond to a growing number of snail and email inquiries.

Program 1

We have created "Home for the Heart", the story of Immigration to America, post Famine-pre depression, "The Great Hunger", which describes the causes of Famine and the failed attempts at combating it, "Fire Upon the Hearth", the story of 118 Irish-American Women and are presently assembling "The Irish in Religion" that will outline the Religious Orders founded in Ireland and their following Irelands Sons and Daughters to America. All tell the story of the Irish in America. Coming in May of 2003 "Irish in Labor" will be opening up at our museum site. We have an 1500 volume reading research Library that is constantly used by students and academians alike and has been complimented by Dr. Noel Kissane and Dr. Ciaran O'Murchadha, both Irish Educators, Authors and Lecturers. Our outreach programs have impacted thousands of school children and senior citizens who continue to be educated and entertained by tales from the Emerald Isle. Our offices entered the cyber space age and we now respond on a regular basis to inquiries of all types concerning things Irish. We talk regularly with Ireland and all points in the USA and have recieved inquiries from Americans studying abroad who chose Irish topics for Masters and Doctoral thesis and have been credited by Authors and Public Broadcasting Stations for our contribution to publications and TV programming that relates to Irish Heritage.
