Mission Statement

Friends of the South Orange Public Library is a nonprofit group of volunteers devoted to enhancing the services and activities of the library.
The goals of FOSOPL are:
To strengthen the relationship of the South Orange Public Library with the general public, schools and business community.
To increase community awareness of the Library through its activities and programming.
To generate awareness of the Library’s educational, informational, and cultural mission.
To encourage participation in cultural and educational events that reflect our diverse community.

Our annual Book Sale is on June 21 and 22, 2014! Special preview sale for Friends of the library members only: Saturday June 21st 10 AM--11 AM. Become a member today to take advantage of this exclusive benefit!
Volunteer: Help us prepare for and run the Book Sale! Click here to sign up for a volunteer slot---or email us at friends@sopl.org if you have a bunch of---or even just a little---free time in Spring of 2014 to spend bonding with community friends and looking over this year's great selection of books!
Our June book donation days are at the Baird Center: Wednesday June 18, 4 PM--8 PM and Thursday June 19, 10 AM--3 PM.

Annual Book Sale

Our only annual fundraiser. All donated books are sold at fair prices to raise funds for the coming finacial year where we dispurse raised funds to the SOPL on an as needed basis. Funds go toward materials acquisitions, programming enhancements above and beyond basic municipal funding.
